Personal Bio
Professionally, I see myself as a financial coach or navigator. My role is to help clients navigate the sea of confusion that is personal finance. My focus is to provide advice and not to sell products.
As a fee-only fiduciary financial planning professional, that's exactly what I do. In my professional work I am humbled knowing that people entrust me with their hard-earned wealth — regardless of the amount — or seek my guidance on any number of life-changing issues that can affect their personal bottom line.
I am like many of my peers, a member of the “Sandwich Generation” helping to care for elderly parents while raising a family of my own. Like many of you who may read this, I lead a complex life – husband, father, son, homeowner, landlord, professional by day, weekend athlete (road cyclist in my case). I can relate to the challenges my clients have faced or will meet. And I genuinely want to share my wisdom, experience and training to help others make the most with their lives.
While my parents did well enough for themselves and their family to achieve the American Dream, we live in much more complex times distracted by our many roles and daily challenges requiring more professional help to make sense of all the choices confronting us. This is why I've developed my practice with a financial planning first approach.
Over the past thirty-four years, first as a mortgage banker and then since 1999 as a financial advisor, I have worked hard to develop my experience and assemble the kinds of tools that are needed to help my clients with a variety of financial challenges including divorce, funding college tuition and building efficient portfolios for long-term investing goals.
I am an honors graduate of the University of Massachusetts – Lowell and Bentley University's McCallum Graduate School of Business. And over the years I've continued my education to be better prepared to handle the range of client financial questions. In 2008 I earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ designation. Since then I've also earned designations as a CHARTERED RETIREMENT PLANNING COUNSELOR ™, ACCREDITED ESTATE PLANNER ®, CERTIFIED COLLEGE FINANCIAL CONSULTANT®, and CERTIFIED COLLEGE FUNDING SPECIALIST. I strive to run my practice and my life on the core principles best summed up in Don Miguel Ruiz’s The Four Agreements: Be Impeccable with Your Word Don’t Take Anything Personally Don’t Make Assumptions Always Do Your Best

Investment Philosophy
Our core beliefs:
- Costs matter
- Markets are efficient
- Focus on reducing risk
- Assets tend to revert to the mean
- Diversification works over the long haul
- Exchange Traded Funds and Individual Stocks Offer Overall Value and Efficiency
- Dividend-paying stocks are a key building block for wealth, income, and risk control
- Certain factors tend to improve return and reduce risk: Small Cap vs Large Cap, Quality of earnings and dividends, ‘Value’ tends to do better over time vs ‘Growth’
Notes on Investment Philosophy
Our approach is driven by academic research and not Wall Street hype. This means we focus on what we believe is time-tested, optimal, and prudent rather than faddish and fashionable. As noted by a wise investment commentator, “when Wall Street builds a better mousetrap, investors are generally the mouse.” And it should be noted that it is often NOT different this time. Our approach is long-term, strategic, and based on well-established financial and economic theories, data, experience, and a little judgement. That means building broadly diversified portfolios that have meaningful international exposure and are built to be tax efficient.
