Financial Advisor in Sunnyvale, CA with 4 Year(s) of Experience
After spending the first 20 years of my career in corporate financial planning & analysis roles, I made the decision to leave a strong six-figure salary and Vice President title to pursue my passion for promoting financial wellness in the community while running my own business.
I launched Rivermark Wealth Management in 2018 to make this vision a reality. We help our clients to reduce taxes, make smarter investment choices, and find financial peace of mind.
I’m a proud graduate of the School of Business Administration at the University of Dayton and the Executive Financial Planner program at Santa Clara University.

The Goal: The only real objectives with an investment portfolio are to fund your life's most important needs and goals and secondarily to leave a legacy for those that you love. Beating the S&P 500 doesn't make the list (although it's fun if it happens).
Asset Allocation: The most important decision that an investor makes is the core asset allocation decision (stocks/bonds/cash/real estate, etc). Data indicates that the asset allocation accounts for close to 90% of long-term results, leaving a small balance to be split between market timing and security selection.
Active vs Passive: The data is overwhelmingly in favor of a passive investment strategy. Buying low-cost and globally diversified holdings isn't nearly as exciting as trying to find the next Google or Amazon. What is exciting is achieving superior long-term investment results all while spending significantly less time and exposing yourself (and those that depend on you) to significantly less risk.
All that said, I still advocate for allocating a portion of your portfolio to individual holdings or speculative investments. In my personal portfolio, the Vegas Fund (as I call it) accounts for ~10% of the total portfolio. Investing in companies that you believe have significant upside, due to a strong competitive advantage, a visionary leadership team, or for other reasons is what makes investing fun. I also believe that my Vegas Fund keeps me from tinkering with the larger part of the portfolio where I could potentially set myself (and my family) back financially.
Other famous quotes that I believe in:
"When it comes to investing....be greedy when others are fearful and fearful when others are greedy."
"It's about time in the market, not timing the market."
